THE VSA HEAT BLUE
OUR GOAL
The VSA Heat provides a year-round framework for the serious soccer player.
We have set a very lofty goal of being the best in the nation and winning
the US Youth Soccer National Tournament. Go Heat!

OUR CONCEPT
We want our players to learn discipline, teamwork and organization through a
structured program (and by the way, they'll become a great soccer player in
the process). The players are required to wear the same clothing to
practice (shirts provided free of charge), dress alike when traveling, and
keep their cleats and other uniform parts clean and presentable.
Practices are mandatory, but you will find that the girls love to go.
We are not necessarily looking for college scholarships, but rather want our
players to eventually exit the program with a strong sense of self esteem,
the ability to take on future challenges with confidence and great memories!
Marching into a full stadium in the US Youth Soccer Regional Tournament
opening ceremonies representing the State of Virginia is a memory most 12
year olds will never forget!

OUR ACTIVITIES
The VSA Heat play in the Washington Area Girls Soccer League (WAGS) in the
Spring and Fall, attend several team camps in the Summer and participate in Futsal training and indoor soccer in the
Winter. We play in 6 to 8
competitive tournaments throughout the year, with at least 4 of them out of
the Washington DC area (in 2007 we will have played 5 away tournaments:
Concorde Fire Challenge (Atlanta, GA), Jefferson Cup (Richmond, VA), FC
Delco (Philadelphia, PA), Mead Cup (Dayton, OH) and the Disney Junior
Showcase (Orlando, FL). We also participate in the Virginia State Cup
Tournament and this past year moved on to the USYS Region 1 Tournament.

FUNDRAISING
To help offset program costs, the VSA Heat sponsors several fundraisers
throughout the year.
Each family is expected to generate an average of $10 per month profit from
the Scrip program, a system wherein families buy "gift cards" that can be
used for everyday expenses (e.g. gas, groceries, restaurants, etc.) and the team
receives a percentage back from the vendor.
We hold an annual golf tournament each year in October, which
includes a live auction. Each family is expected to participate in
some form with the tournament.
Other fundraisers we have held include: concession stands, raffles, car
washes, dry cleaning discount cards.
ADDITIONAL COSTS
The fee structure outlined above does not include all the costs associated
with being on the VSA Heat for a typical season. Listed below are
examples of costs that you may have to pay extra for:
Uniforms,
warm-ups and bags are not included in the dues. The uniform costs about $110 for
the full kit, the warm-ups cost about $100, and the bags run about $50. We typically buy new
uniforms every 2 years.
The majority of
the girls on the VSA Heat participate in the Soccer the Brazilian Way
Madeira sleep-over camp in Great Falls, VA for a week in early August. This is
not a mandatory camp, but your daughter may make you feel like it is - they
love it! The cost of this camp is $550. STBW usually conducts 2
of these camps in August, and some of our players actually choose to attend both.
Soccer the
Brazilian Way conducts additional camps and indoor sessions (i.e. Spring
Break camps, indoor striker training). You can attend these camps
(they are generally not mandatory and usually less than one third of the
team participates) as well as other camps with other trainers at your own cost.
Tournament
Travel - this can get expensive, particularly if you want to take your whole
family along. Our families approach this in a variety of ways.
Some families attend all of the tournaments, while others will attend a few
and send their daughters along with another family for the others. Some families will
get their own rooms, while others might share. No matter your
circumstance, you can generally find a way to minimize your costs.
Travel, lodging and food costs are the responsibility of each individual
family.
State Cup and
Regional Tournaments - if we are fortunate enough to again advance to the
State Cup Final Four, State Cup Championships or go on to the Regional
Tournament, you
can expect to travel as far as Virginia Beach for the State Cup Tournaments
and to Portland, ME for the 2008 Regional Tournament. We were lucky this past year
to get a sponsor to pay for all of our week's lodging at Regionals in
Maine, but travel, lodging and food are the responsibility of
each individual family.
